to blog or not to blog

hi. my name is jay brannan, and i have a stomach ache, but i'm sure you don't care.

i don't have a stomach ache because i'm sick...i have a stomach ache because i've...i'm...oh god. can i even say it?

i'm blogging

ew that word tastes bad

but. the truth is a lot of people have asked me to do it for a long time. and i have a real hard time keeping up with the emails i get from people, and i feel really bad not being able to answer them all--or sometimes being months behind.

so i figure MAYBE this is a way to let you know what i'm doing and to check in every now and then with the people who might care--or for those who don't care at all, but are bored enough to end up here anyway. so i'm giving it a shot.

conclusion: i'm not blogging because i particularly have anything interesting say. i'm not blogging because i think anyone really cares what i have to say.

i'm blogging because you made me.

A stomach ache is a good sign. It means you care about what you do. Whether it´s for us. Or -at the end of the day- it´s just for you.
Don´t take it as a burden. Take it as a relief for certain things, whatever they are, even if they are just anecdotes.
Good Luck!

I think it's wonderful that you decided (or that we "made" you) to start blogging. And even if the stomach aches remain for the first few times (or always if you're anything like me) thank you a million times for being/feeling closer to us.
Love your music, love you as a person, looking forward to your Parisian debut, I started saving for the plane tickets already ;)

I never pushed for you to blog because I know what a hassle it can be ... and the sort of subtle dread it can cause when you want to post but just aren't in the mood to put yourself out there.

But - I'm glad you're doing it anyway and looking forward to reading the tidbits of your life and thoughts that might not fit neatly enough into a song. :)

I think it's great that you're coming to Europe. I wish I could come to one of your shows but unfortunately I'm stuck here in Austria and since I'm only a poor student I don't have any money to travel to Paris or the UK. :( Maybe one day you'll come to Austria too. Until then I wish you a terrific time in Europe.

*hugs* Melanie

Jay, remember when we were at Jenks and they taught us to capitalize the beginnings of our sentences? Come on, man, you're better than this.

Aww, you finally gave in. Just think of it as writing. You're a writer. That's what I keep telling myself. The word "blog" makes me a little sick too.

By the way, I have a picture of you that John Cameron Mitchell took. I won his camera for the Mix Festival thing. At some point, I'll put them up (and send back the doubles), so you'll get it. It's a great shot.

Don't worry, deep breaths, it will all be fine.

Think of it as much less cheesy myspace -what with the focus on words and what not.

Yea, he's blogging! Believe me, you have alot more interesting things to say (and sing) than many of the blogs out there- I hope you keep it up!

Wow! I'm pretty excited about this, even if it is against your will.

Just so you know--you'll love Cape Town. I lived there for a few months when I was young(er) and it was absolutely amazing.

Anyway. I've decided to link you on my blog, because you're fantastic. I'd be more than elated if you did the same.

I hope your stomach ache goes away. Blogging becomes much more fun when you've got something to say but nobody to say it to. =]

Have a good day.

Pedro said...

Just being totally selfish here, but after reading Sérgio's comment I thought I'd second it. LISBON, please, come ;) Paris is near enough that I can starve myself for a few days and get there, but do consider a Grand European Tour or a micro but still Great one. You'll love Lisbon. Guaranteed. Thanks for starting this blog, and thanks for your music... Had I forgot those? I was leaving the best for last, of course.

Jay, if someone asked you to start blogging then someone is gonna read whatever you write. Boring or not. Just because everything we like is interesting. So I would find it exiting to read your blog.
Just to know what you are up to.
And to let you know that we are whaiting for a show in Copenhagen. :D

Yeah, we all would like a nice piece of Jay, right?
Come on, admit it!
He's just -perfecto-.
(but probably if one of us would get a chance with him, things wouldn't end pretty {I mean, that's what "at first sight" talks about, right?, maybe not...})
Anyway, let's watch from the distance and grin whenever we remember the songs, the face, the soul.
Keep it up, Jay!
(Who am I kidding? I really hope his way would sometime meet mine)
{Oh, and I agree with "nikolás de lioncourt", you have to come to Mexico someday, too bad I don't have te connections...}

I'm just happy I get to experience your sweetly sardonic wit even more than before.

You really are an amazing person. I hope you know that. And not like fake, "oh my god I am just awesome, because everyone tells me so" knowing, but true core knowledge that you wake up everyday knowing and owning. You. Are. Incredible.

And I know (the real way) that you will change the world.

Be well, I'll be at your NYC show in December.

Michael said...

Blogging just gives people another way to pseudostalk you. That being said, I'm kinda glad you're blogging now. Not because I want to stalk you, but because... okay, so I don't really have a reason. I'm lame that way.

Menoh said...

Ok. I feel the same way. I am not insightful and do not have pearls to share with the world. I blog, because I like to ruffle feathers and piss people off. I like your blog for the same reason. There is no formula to it, as like mine. I am gonna link yours in mine.

your dreams require people

Yes the Majority are mean and Hate filled with Jealousy.

Yes you and all the people you are surrounding your self with are a minority. Drawn to you because of your talents of combining word and music. Which is the beginnings of any Revelation.

Magic happens only in farry tales and some how i don't think you believe in thoes. Find the strength to believe in the people who appreciate what you say with your Talents. To achieve the victory you need to carry thoes people into battle with you. They are your greatest asset. Least you attempt this without them.

The last time the world was concurred by The Romans using an Army of Effeminate males. Pregnant Women who go into shock during battle deliver effeminate males babies. That's science that still applies today. The Romans took these children into the male bonding of an Army and did concur the world. Now we see why Christians are so afraid of Homosexuality.

The body of a man with the thinking patterns of a woman. Fighting for each other not the wife and kids back home.

fuck it take my land and village i surrender.

Enjoyed your Paris show last night; good luck with the others (or, if you don’t see this post till next week: hope all went well). Your songs’ poignant leitmotif suggests you don’t have enough fun but I hope this is a misconception.

Stopped at a nearby supermarket after your show & was confronted by a wall of Nutella six-packs on special offer. I almost ran back with one for you but didn’t want to seem like a weird groupie (plus you joked about putting on weight).

Off to NYC & Dallas next week. My friends there haven’t heard of you so I’ll try to spread the word.
