im gonna open a bar called "Depressed Bar". serving only diet ginger ale & playing music like Patty Griffin, Lisa Loeb, & Tori Amos at moderate volumes. only slow dancing allowed, no cologne/jewelry/makeup/glitter/sunglasses/anything shiny. all outfits must be hand-me-downs or from low-cost retailers, and anyone who talks too loud or makes sudden movements will be escorted out.

I'm all over this like a cheap suit. Wearing one, too, I expect.
Can there be TV's behind the bar playing nothing but Lifetime movies...in black and white?
Damn. I was all in until I saw the part about cologne and shitty clothes. :(
Oh great! Hopefully I'll get new members for my suicidal club from your bar ;-)
As long as I can talk endlessly about how much my life sucks, I'm in.
I love it, it's exactly like being at home alone except with other people. Can I bring a Sylvia Plath novel?
I'm already there.
what Leora said o.O
I hope there's no cover charge or fuck that.
Wow... Sounds like my kind of place... hope it is close enough I can go there.... Franchises perhaps???
this idea (i discovered Your site only few moment ago on the ministery)
is an answer to what You wrote before
about the reality of contact:
these is one of these rare but wonderful moments in life that someone says exactly
what is on my mind and giving words to my feeling/thoughts.
i thank You
(i live far away, so i can not visit Your depressed bar, but sharings feeling is great pleasure already

Sounds relaxing. But I'm one of those cheerful, solitary types. Is that OK?
i'd be there most of the time except for the tori amos. i like tori amos. but my first girlfriend ruined her for me by introducing me to her music and then playing it while being a manipulative jerk. classical conditioning.
Oh man! Your bar sounds so emo! Hahaha... It is best for those who love mellow music and I guess those singles who haven't moved on =(. hmm... I think it is also good that you're playing music like Paramore's "Only exception" or "Turn it off", as well as songs from Dashboard Confessional and Boys Like Girls. Some of their music are mellow and talk about love, and they are even better in acoustic versions.
If you really plan on opening a bar like this, I guess your customers would mostly be vegans. Diet ginger ale is a natural soda, right? Maybe they'll like this idea. However, I think you can change the "only-slow-dancing-allowed" rule to "there's-a-perfect-time-to-dance-whatever-you-want"! ;)
